Red wine is diverse, ranging from light and fruity to deep, rich, and complex with many tannins. Whether you are a leisure drinker or a red wine enthusiast, there are some facts that you simply must know!

  1. The color in wine comes from a plant pigment called anthocyanin, which can be found in the skins of red grapes.
  2. All the most well known red wines, such as Cabernet Sauvignon, Syrah, Merlot, and Pinot Noir are of only one species of grape: Vitis vinifera.
  3.  The benefits of red wine comes from tannin, which is also present in dark chocolates and green tea. Tannin inhibits the cholesterol which blocks the blood vessels, this promotes good heart health.

The most popular red wines you will come across are:

  1. Cabernet Sauvignon
  2. Malbec
  3. Shiraz
  4. Merlot
  5. Cabernet Franc
  6. Zinfandel
